How Darfur and Rwanda are similar is the violence itself. There was genocide committed in both Darfur and Rwanda. These mass murders happened during the civil war in countries that were experiencing changes in political power, countries with histories of common heritage and ethnic ancestry. 
In both, government sponsored groups waged genocide against specific ethnic groups.
