The Capture Theory proposes that the moon was a passing asteroid pulled into orbit by earth's gravity.
The Capture Theory is not a valid theory, per se. The Impact Theory is the theory most recognized. The theory states that the moon formed from dust produced by a collision between Earth and another large body.
