As per the problem we have

Jasper has 7 more checkers left than Karen does.

Let Karen has x checkers.

It mean Jasper has [tex] (x+7) [/tex] checkers.

Now again from the problem we have

Jasper has 9 checkers left.

so we can write

[tex] x+7=9\\
\\
x=9-7\\
\\
x=2\\ [/tex]

It mean karen has 2 checkers left.
