What is Professor Moriarty’s relationship with Holmes?

The simplest answer is that they are the deadliest of enemies.
One is a virtuous man on the right side of the law (Holmes).
The other is a complete villain -- the mastermind of crime (Moriarty).

Some of the films have Moriarty as Holmes' teacher. Pure Sherlock fans do not accept this travesty of purpose and the British way of justice.
