add 2c to both sides with gives you 7c
now you have 7c-9=8
then you add 9 since its negative to both sides which gives you 17
now you have 7c=17
here comes the tricky part
you divide 7 to both sides
if you want to leave you can leave it in fraction from as 17/7
or you can have a decimal which is 2.42
so your answer can be 17/7 or 2.42...either of those 2
