When factoring, you are essentially dividing the GCF by all the terms.
So to factor out -1/3 from the binomial, we divided it all of the terms by -1/3:
First Term:
[tex]\frac{1}{3}y/-\frac{1}{3}[/tex]
[tex]=\frac{1}{3}y*-\frac{3}{1}[/tex]
[tex]=-3/3y[/tex]
[tex]=-1y[/tex]
Second Term:
[tex]=-\frac{3}{2} / - \frac{1}{3} [/tex]
[tex]=-\frac{3}{2} * - \frac{3}{1} [/tex]
[tex]=\frac{9}{2}[/tex]
The factored polynomial result would be:
[tex](-\frac{1}{3})(-1y+\frac{9}{2})[/tex]
