If you lived 2000 years ago, which would be the best to own: a horse, a cow, or a dozen chickens? Why?

I would think the best thing to own would be a cow because of the milk.

A dozen chickens. If there are any roosters mixed in with the hens, they can reproduce. A single cow or a single horse can't reproduce, so you would only be able to slaughter either for meat once and then you've got no milk or transport. Chickens can offer both meat and eggs for bartering.
