(1) iron is a component of haemoglobin, a pigment in red blood cells that gives blood its red color. hence, people with low iron don't have enough haemoglobin and therefore look pale.
(2) the lack of red blood cells means there is a lack of oxygen and nutrients being carried around, which leads to a lack of energy.
