  • y = - 3
  • Ratio of segments 5 : 4

=================

We have the endpoints of line segment (7, - 3) and (-2, - 3).

Since both points have same y-coordinate, the line segment is horizontal. Its length is:

  • 7 - (-2) = 9 units

The point (3, y) is on the same line segment should also have same y-coordinate, hence y = - 3.

The two line segments have lengths of:

  • 7 - 3 = 4 units and
  • 3 - (-2) = 5 units

The ratio of the segments from left to right is:

  • 5 : 4
