If I had to say, European consumers were very into luxury products, things that were made from cotton and minerals and whatnot. And the early invaders of America were poor off, so with all this demand from Europe, and all this opportunity to "free" land, they used those resources. One of those "resources" were slaves, used to pick cotton and all sorts of stuff. All those resources were used for goods for Europeans. Thats my best answer, hope you do well:)
