Unlike a classical epic poem, Pope's mock epic emphasizes the trivial. His poem, The R.ape of the Lock, trivializes epic poems which often told the stories of heroes and epic loves. In his poem, the event around which the story is spun is a stolen lock of hair. Such a trivial even is made to be the most important thing in the poem.
