It was more involved with Southern Europe then then the other churches. I'm learning this right now in world history.

Because  Roman Catholicism originated in Ancient Rome, giving it more time to prosper and gain popularity. This could result in regular Catholicism. (Google for more info BEFORE doing anything that could result in a grade.)
