when using fraction strips .how do you know that two fractions are equalient ? can you explain

If you are using fraction strips, the strips will be of equal length. Then you know that the fractions are equivalent.
For example, if you take one 1/2 strip and 2 1/4 strips they will be of equal length. Then you can tell that they are equivalent.
