When developing an interval estimate for the difference between two sample means, with sample sizes of n1 and n2, n1 must be equal to n2.

What is an interval estimate?

The interval estimate can be defined to be the value of the given parameter that is in a population which has a given probability of occurring.

It is the use of data to find the point at which the value is to occur. Hence n1 has to be equal to n2.
