add 5x+3 both sides
x^2+5x+3=0
must use quadratic equation
for
ax^2+bx+c=0
x=[tex] \frac{-b+/- \sqrt{b^2-4ac} }{2a} [/tex]

given
1x^2+5x+3
a=1
b=5
c=3

x=[tex] \frac{-5+/- \sqrt{5^2-4(1)(3)} }{2(1)} [/tex]
x=[tex] \frac{-5+/- \sqrt{25-12} }{2} [/tex]
x=[tex] \frac{-5+/- \sqrt{13} }{2} [/tex]

x=[tex] \frac{-5+ \sqrt{13} }{2} [/tex] or [tex] \frac{-5- \sqrt{13} }{2} [/tex]
