Answer:

4x - 8 = 6x + 16

Separate all the terms with x's on to one side and all the terms without x's to the other side:

(4x - 8) - 6x + 8= (6x + 16) - 6x + 8

4x - 6x + (8 - 8) = 16 + 8 + (6x - 6x)

4x - 6x = 16 + 8

-2x = 24 (Get rid of the number in front of x)

-2x/-2 = 24/-2

x = - 12
