Percy is attempting to study for his exam with Mr. Dodds, the math teacher who attacked Percy in the museum. He hears Mr. Brunner say that Percy needs to "'mature more,'" and Grover mentions something about a deadline at the summer solstice.
Percy should go after Hades to rescue his mom because Zeus is already fighting with Poseidon and believes he stole the lighting bolt. Trying to explain things to Zeus would only make it seem like Percy stole the bolt.
