The evidence is that, from the diagram we can see that only 2 chickens (3&5) actually have the allele showing that it is recessive as to actually have the condition both parents must have it. However, from the tree starting from chicken 3 and 4, no child actually has the trait as only 1 parent has the gene, so to have it both parents must have the gene.
