multiply the 1st equation by 15

 therefore we get a new equation..and we mark it as 3rd eq

15x - 30y = 180-------eq(3)

15x + 3y =-44--------------eq(2)

now you can see (x) term in both the equations are the same...so

there is a law in elimination method

  • if the terms are equal we subtract the rest without the equaled term
  • if the terms are different we add the rest without the different term

so here term are equal so we subtract

eq(3)-eq(2)

-30y -3y = 180 -(-44)

-33y = 224

y = -224/33

then let's get the answer for (x) term by substitute the answer we got for y to any of the above equation without our new equation (3)

x - 2y = 12--------------eq(1)

x - 2 (-224/33) = 12

x = -52/33

answers

x = -52/33

y = -224/33
