After much research, what I've found is that Arthur Conan Doyle was 'inspired' by two people but Sherlock Holmes wasn't exactly based on anyone.

The more popular of these two people is Dr. Joseph Bell. The other person by the way - is a Scottish surgeon called Henry Littlejohn.
