subtract 7 from both sides.
1. 2x + 7 - 7 = x - 3 - 7
now the equation reads like this 
 2x = -10 + x
subtract x from both sides 
2. 2x - x = -10 + x - x
now the equation reads like this
x = -10
then you have your answer
3. x = (-10)
