The Dawes act affected American Indians by forcing tribes to relinquish their homelands and relocate to reservations, often hundreds of miles away. The goal was to assimilate Indians into western society (by force) and undermine Indian life and culture at its core by forcing individual Indians to own land for private use, instead of sharing it communally as they had done for centuries. I hope this helps!
