∵ sum of complementary angles = 90
∴ 7x + 17 + 3x - 20 = 90
10x - 3 = 90
10x = 93
x = 93 ÷ 10 = 9.3

1st angle: 7x + 17 = (7)(9.3) + 17 = 82.1°
2nd angle: 3x - 20 = (3)(9.3) - 20 = 7.9°
