The children didn't think Lydia was right when she said that they needed to take a vacation, away from hot, yellow Africa, so they do not listen. I also believe they love fairy tales and fantasies, since in the paragraph they were talking about going through a door, to Alice in Wonderland and more. They don't listen, they dream.
