Juan is making birdhouses to sell at a craft show the cost of making the birdhouse is $80 plus $6 per birdhouse. He sells them for $16 each. Using how many does he have to sell to make a profit?

then we would set up the equation

80 + 6x = 16x

then we would subtract the 6x because we cannot have more than one x since we are trying to isolate the variable.

after you have done this you equation should look like this 80 = 10x

now you are left with a simple isolate the variable equation and simply divide both side by ten and your answer would be x = 8
