The light-independent reactions occur within the chloroplast thylakoids. The
pigment chlorophyll help to trap the light energy from the Sun thereby
energizing the electrons within them.
The electrons are then shunted to the electron transport chain in the
thylakoid membrane to convert NADP to NADPH₂ .
