the square of a negative number is twenty-four more than twice the negative number. Find the number.

Let x be the negative number.

2x+24=x^2 (Equation)

x^2-2x-24=0 (Quadratic Equation)

(x-6)(x+4)=0 (Factored Form)

Solve for x.

x=6 (NA) or x=-4
