Some of the Cherokee took the water route.  They left on June 6  starting from Ross’ Landing at the Tennessee River and then travelled through the Mississippi River and arrived at Fort Coffee. Another group travelled by land by crossing the Mississippi then going through Missouri.  Both had problems as many died of disease and lack of water.  It was called the Trail of Tears.
