You are adding new siding to the side of a house. The windows are 30 inches by 48 inches. How many square feet of siding will you need ?

The window area could be 2*(2.5 ft)(4 ft) = 20 ft^2.

The side area would be (10 ft + 16 ft)/2*(24 ft) = 312 ft^2

Put the two operations together to get your answer

(312 - 20) ft^2 = 292 ft^2.
