In the blood clotting cascade mechanism, thrombin catalyzes
the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin. Thrombin is the main enzyme of
hemostasis, which is how we stop bleeding. Thrombin also triggers platelets, controls
endothelial cell function, and has a mass of direct actions on other cells.
