First you bring the 9 over with the seven
[tex]-2= \sqrt[3]{x+9} [/tex]
Now cube both sides
[tex]-8=x+9[/tex]
Finally subtract 9 over and get
[tex]x=-17[/tex]
Check
[tex]7=9+ \sqrt[3]{-17+9} [/tex]
[tex]7=9+ \sqrt[3]{-8} [/tex]
[tex]7=9+(-2)[/tex]
7=7
