Indications for Surgery: This patient presents with an enlarging sebaceous scalp cyst.
Findings at Surgery: There is a 2-cm scalp cyst.
Operative Procedure: With the patient in the supine position with the neck flexed, the scalp was prepped and draped in the usual sterile fashion. The skin and underlying tissues were anesthetized with 15 mL of 1% lidocaine with epinephrine. Through a transverse incision, the cyst was excised. Hemostasis was ensured. The incision was then closed with interrupted 4-0 nylon and collodian. The patient was returned to the same-day surgery center in stable postoperative condition. All sponge, needle, and instrument counts were correct. Estimated blood loss is 0 mL.
Pathology Report Later Indicated: Follicular cyst, isthmus catagen type (pilar cyst), clinically scalp.
