Read closely the passage from MLK's "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" as well as the passage from Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida.

Reading #1: Excerpt from Martin Luther King’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail”
--focus your reading starting from page 7 (“You express a great deal of anxiety over our willingness to break laws”) to page 9 (“I must make two honest confessions”).

Reading #2: Excerpt from William Shakespeare’s Troilus and Cressida

This response piece has four parts; take each part in turn:

MLK presents an opinion on what makes a just and moral law. What is his standard? What would you say is his definition of morality and how does it relate to justice?
Ulysses in his speech to the Greeks presents his own view of what constitutes justice and morality. What is his standard? What would you say is his standard for justice and morality?
Examine your own actions and opinions of what is "good" and "bad." Think. Think particularly in the realm of actions and choices. Then write what your definition for morality is. How does this definition work as a standard to identify actions as immoral and unjust. Write your own definition of what you think justice and morality are.
Finally, write about the two main characters in Antigone (Antigone and Creon) in terms of how moral and just their actions were in the play.
This response piece should be at least 250 words.
--also include a Writing Report for your response

NOTE: You must attempt to define morality as concretely as you can. Simply saying, "Morality is what is good" is not enough. What is your standard for "good"? Saying "A just action is an action that follows the law and is right" also is not enough. What is your standard for what is "right"?
